Traditional Thai Massage

Thai massage, Thai Yoga massage or Traditional Thai massage are all names that apply to this bodywork modality. Many people are curious about this technique and ask me to tell them what it’s like. I always present the same answer. It’s a bit like cinnamon gelato -you really have to try it to know for sure. You don’t have to be able to do yoga or have any special abilities to receive Thai massage except an ability to enjoy massage.

Thai Massage is an eastern healing system and intuitive therapy that promotes health and well-being through balancing the movement of energy in the body. It is also a deep physical form of bodywork that releases tension by improving flexibility and mobility.

While we all understand the benefits of establishing a well-rounded life style that includes exercise, relaxation, work and play, there are times when we are living with more stresses than the body can deal with. During these times, we can benefit greatly by receiving Thai massage. It is based on the understanding that energy known as lom flows throughout the body along pathways or meridians. When we are overstressed the movement of energy is restricted, which eventually leads to imbalances.

An extensive variety of techniques are used to balance this energy, as well as to mobilize the joints, and improve circulation. After the massage, we feel relaxed, energized and renewed. These techniques include reflexology, acupressure, therapeutic stretching, joint mobilization, as well as the deeply soothing work of Thai herbal compresses.

A Thai Massage session normally lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. The therapist guides your body through a flowing sequence of yoga-based stretches, while applying rhythmic pressure along the energy pathways and specific points. Each session is designed to meet your individual needs and abilities.

To allow for ease of movement during the session, both the practitioner and receiver wear loose, comfortable clothes. All the work is done on a mat on the floor.
